Romans 5:1-2

In the first eleven verses of this chapter we find that we have at least seven spiritual blessings as a result of our justification – “a right standing before a holy God”. The first blessing is peace with God! In verse two, we learn that we also have access to God.

In the Old Testament, the Jew was never able to go into the presence of God in the Holy of Holies. There was a veil that separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place. And only the high priest could go beyond the veil once a year, when on the Day of Atonement, he would take the blood of the sacrifice and sprinkle it on the Mercy Seat that was covering the Ark of the Covenant. No one else had any access to the presence of God. The Gentile was not even allowed to go into the wall around the temple without the penalty of death.

No access to God by anyone because of our sin! Only the High Priest, and he was a picture of Jesus Christ, who would take His own sacrificial blood and sprinkle it on the Mercy Seat in the tabernacle in heaven. (Hebrews 9 & 10)

Paul says all this so clearly in Ephesians 2:12-18 "That at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father."

Today, the Father invites you to come into His presence! Will you accept His invitation? God bless!
