Romans 8:1-12
Years ago, in the early days of my ministry, I prepared and preached a message entitled, “The Battle for the Mind.” Have you ever wondered why a person believes what they believe? Why are most of the people who live in India, Hindus? Why are most of the people who live in the Middle East, Muslims? Why do so many people who live in the West, call themselves Christians? I’m convinced the answer is that, when they were very young, they were taught to believe in that particular belief system. You generally believe what you what taught to believe. Most creationist believe that God created the universe in seven days because they were taught to believe this. Most evolutionist believe that we are here today as a result of a “big bang” that randomly took place billions of years ago, because someone taught them to believe that.
Today we are being told that 73 million Americans need to be “reprogramed” because they believe the wrong thing about social order and politics. The battle is for the mind.
Have you ever heard, “Garbage in, garbage out.” What you allow your mind to hear and take in will determine what you will believe. In this passage in Romans 8, where we are learning how to live a transformed life that brings life and peace and the freedom and power to live a life that pleases God and blesses others, Paul makes it very clear that the mind plays a crucial role in this. Romans 8:5-7 “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.”
God has given you the power of choice so you can decide with your will what information you are going to feed your mind with! Today, you can feed your mind with the truth of God’s Word or you can choose to intake the lies of this world. It’s your choice! One way leads to life and the other way leads to death! Remember it was Jesus Who said, “I Am the Way, the Truth and the Life….”
God bless!
