Wisdom With Understanding
Jude 1:24-25 “Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen.”
There is no wisdom apart from the Creator God! Not a god that we have made up to simply appease our minds or our religious inclinations. When the Apostle Paul visited Athens he found an altar that they have made and were worshiping at called, “To The Unknown God”. (Acts 17:23) Paul took this opportunity to tell the people there about the true and the living and the creator God!
God created us to have a desire to know Him and have a relationship with Him. But because of sin, there is an empty place in our hearts and souls that only God can fill! God has generally revealed Himself to us in His creation! “Because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:19-20).
God has personally revealed Himself through person and life of Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself said, “He who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). And God has clearly and specifically revealed Himself to us through the eternal Word of God. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” (John 1:1-3)
Remember Proverbs 4:7 where Solomon told us that wisdom is the principle thing for us to get, but he adds, “That with all our getting we are to get understanding”! I believe this means we must seek to also know how to apply God’s wisdom to every situation and aspect of our lives. To make God number one in our lives does not simply mean we have Him at the top of the list of our priorities. It means that we have Him always at the center of everything in our life. I believe Proverbs 3:5-6 summarizes this perfectly: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
Proverbs 2:1-11 tells us how to seek understanding and the great reward and benefits that we will receive if we do! ”My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; He guards the paths of justice, and preserves the way of His saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice, Equity and every good path. When wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you.”
You should seek for wisdom and understanding as if you were looking for a hidden treasure in your backyard! If you knew that somewhere on your property there was millions of dollars’ worth of treasure hidden, I guarantee you, it would be on your mind all the time.
My friend, God’s wisdom, and understanding how to apply it to every aspect of our lives, is worth for more than millions of dollars! Today, ask God to give you a desire and a heart for Him and His wisdom!
God bless!
