Where To Find Hope In A Hopeless World
Romans 15:4
”For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”
Have you ever come to a time in your life where you felt hopeless? You had nothing to look forward to. You had nothing to live for. You felt like no one really cared about you and even that God was not interested in you or your problems. I have been told that the number one major in college for young people is psychology even though most of the students taking it will never use it in a professional way as a counselor or teacher.
I believe the reason is that they are looking for answers to life. They are looking for themselves. They are looking for something to live for. But my friend, I want to remind you that a world without God is a world without hope. If there is no God, then everything in life is totally up to chance! But there is a God and even if it appears you cannot find Him in the world around you, I can assure you that you can find Him in His Book called the Bible!
That is what Paul is reminding us of here in Romans 15:4-7. ”For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Today, please take the time to read the Bible. It is the story of hope! God is real! God is always at work! One of the most amazing stories of the Old Testament is the story of Esther. The name God is not mentioned once in the entire book, but the providential hand of God is obviously in every chapter working behind the scenes to save His people from total destruction.
When I read these stories, I find encouragement and help to patiently endure the difficulties or challenges that I am facing! Our God is the “Father of mercies and the God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3). Read about Him in His Word, believe and trust Him and be encouraged today!
God Bless!
